Pick-ups & Drop-offs

In-person pick-ups and drop-offs can be a great option when a Buyer and Seller are in the same area. However, these arrangements are only allowed when both parties mutually agree via DW Chat.
Key things to know about in-person pick-ups and drop-offs:
- Pick-ups and drop-offs must be arranged and agreed upon by both the Buyer and Seller through DW Chat.

- The item must be purchased through Designer Wardrobe before any pick-up or drop-off takes place. All payments must go through our secure checkout.

- Once the Buyer has physically collected the item (pick-up) or accepted a drop-off from the Seller, the item is considered accepted and the sale is deemed complete.

Pick-ups vs drop-offs

Type What it Means
Pick-up The Buyer collects the item from an agreed location. The Buyer inspects the item before taking it away. Once collected, the item is considered accepted.
Drop-off The Seller delivers the item to the Buyer at an agreed location. The Seller must get confirmation from the Buyer via DW Chat that the item can be dropped off. The Buyer can still open a dispute if the item is not as described.

What does "accepted" mean?

When a Buyer picks up an item in person, the act of taking the item away is treated as confirmation that the Buyer has inspected the item and is satisfied it matches the listing description. This means:

- A return is not possible after the item has been collected, unless the Seller agrees to accept a return.

- DW Purchase Protection does not apply to issues raised after a pick-up has taken place, as the Buyer had the opportunity to inspect the item before taking it away.

- If both parties agree to a return after the fact, this is a private arrangement between the Buyer and Seller. Designer Wardrobe is not obligated to mediate or process a return in this instance.
Drop-offs are different: Because the Buyer may not have the same opportunity to inspect the item at the point of handover, DW Purchase Protection still applies to drop-offs. If the item is not as described, the Buyer can open a dispute as normal.

Can we agree to a return reason before pick-up?

Yes. In some cases, a Buyer and Seller may agree before the pick-up that the item will be returned if a specific condition is not met. For example, a Buyer may wish to have a designer bag verified for authenticity before committing to keep it.

If both parties agree to this arrangement, the following applies:

- The agreed return reason must be clearly stated in writing via DW Chat before the pick-up takes place.

- Only the specific reason agreed upon will be considered a valid basis for a return. No other return reasons will apply.

- If the agreed condition is met (e.g. the item fails authentication), the Buyer must notify the Seller via DW Chat and return the item promptly.
No written agreement in DW Chat? If there is no pre-agreed return reason documented in DW Chat, the standard pick-up policy applies and the item is considered accepted once collected.

Tips for a smooth pick-up or drop-off

For Buyers For Sellers
Inspect the item thoroughly before taking it away. Check it matches the listing description, including condition, size, and authenticity. Make sure the item is clean and matches your listing description. Be upfront about any wear or damage.
If you're not happy with the item at the point of pick-up, you can choose not to take it and discuss next steps with the Seller via DW Chat. Have the item ready and available at the agreed time and location. Confirm via DW Chat when the Buyer has collected or accepted the item.
If a Seller is dropping off, inspect the item before confirming you're happy to accept it. If you're dropping off, get confirmation from the Buyer via DW Chat that the item can be dropped off before leaving it.
Meet in a safe, public location where possible. Meet in a safe, public location where possible.

How does the Seller get paid after a pick-up or drop-off?

Because there is no tracking information for an in-person pick-up or drop-off, we are unable to pay you out automatically. Your earnings will be available once the Buyer clicks "Confirm Item Received", or a reasonable period of time after the item was paid for if we haven't heard from the Buyer.

We recommend asking the Buyer to click "Confirm Item Received" at the time of pick-up or drop-off so your earnings are released as quickly as possible.

Important: All pick-ups and drop-offs must be for items purchased through Designer Wardrobe's secure checkout. Arranging payment outside of Designer Wardrobe is strictly against our Terms of Use and means we cannot offer any support or Purchase Protection.
